Projects in our sector are typically ‘cross-functional’; a team consists of representatives from each key function in the organisation, led by a project manager.
Leaders of functional sections (e.g. groups of similar scientists) will typically be asked to manage projects. The style of leadership for a project is, however, different. Firstly, the PM will be leading team members whose professional work they have no expertise in. Secondly, the functional reps usually still report to their own line managers, and the PM has no ‘direct’ authority.
This eLearning course will explore the mindset needed to work in this environment. Several typical (challenging!) scenarios will be posed. There is an opportunity to learn more about one’s own style and get critical tips to develop it.
This course will be available from 13th June 2022.
